9x5: The HiPlaces Model

From the 9 Dimensions:
Implement Deep Integrated Standards Based Instruction

Instructional methods in a high performance learning community are responsive to the information we now possess about the ways children and adolescents learn best. Units are no longer compartmentalized according to content area, but instead are integrated across subjects. These thematic units have relevance to students' lives and meaning beyond the classroom. Teachers in high performance learning communities understand the value of authentic performance assessments. They also recognized the importance of monitoring and coordinating homework and assessments across subject areas. Instruction is tailored to address national, state, and local standards, to ensure that all students acquire the skills and competencies necessary to continue their education and to function effectively as adults.
